Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas to open sportsbook

4 March 2011
LAS VEGAS, Nevada -- Cantor Gaming's latest multimillion-dollar race and sports book was scheduled to open today at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, according to the company's chief executive officer.
The location will be Cantor's fourth in Las Vegas. The company owns and operates a Cantor Race and Sports Book at M Resort, the Tropicana and the Hard Rock Hotel.
Lee Amaitis said the company has invested $125 million in Las Vegas since it opened its first book at the M Resort. The company currently leases its technology to The Venetian and Palazzo.
The sports book at The Cosmopolitan will be located on the second floor adjacent to the Marquee night club.
Until today, gamblers wanting to wager on a particular sporting event were able to do so at two windows located in the Book & Stage bar. Those betting windows will remain open and operational, the company said.
The deal was originally announced Nov. 15, but it took until February to receive final approval from state gaming regulators.
"The Cosmopolitan is the most exciting property on the Strip. Its vision ... reflects our own mission to transform sports wagering through our groundbreaking technology," Amaitis said in a statement.
The sports book will offer Cantor's In-Running wagering technology, with which customers can place bets throughout live events. Cantor, a subsidiary of the financial services firm Cantor Fitzgerald L.P., will also offer its mobile gaming system, eDeck.
The eDeck wireless system gives guests the ability to wager on sporting events in regulatory-approved areas of the Cosmopolitan, such as bars and restaurants.
The mobile devices, which are about the size of an iPad, also come preloaded with casino games developed by Cantor, including XtraOdds Baccarat and XtraOdds Blackjack.
