Online Gaming in Kenya

Kenya has one of the most liberalized gambling industries in Africa, with most forms of gambling permitted, including casinos, betting, online betting, online casinos and mobile casinos, although the regulator has in recent years tightened enforcement against non-compliant operators and unapproved payment channels.

The first legal and regulated online gaming sites appeared in 2011, and since then, online gaming and betting sites have increased greatly in popularity.

Early experiments such as the Amaya-powered BetKenya platform have since been replaced by a large ecosystem of locally licensed and international brands, accessed primarily via mobile and USSD channels, with domain blocking and payment controls used to discourage unlicensed offshore sites.
