Online Gaming in Caribbean

The Caribbean region is home to many online gaming operators. A number of countries have developed licensing infrastructures and many host online gaming servers and call centers. Gambling license fees and taxes form a major part of government revenue for several jurisdictions.

The liberal attitude toward online gaming has caused friction between the small island nation of Antigua and Barbuda and the U.S. The former claimed the UIGEA (Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act) hurt its economy and that the U.S. unfairly interfered with commerce and petitioned the World Trade Organization, which ruled in Antigua and Barbuda’s favor. The U.S. has refused to abide by the WTO decision, and tension over internet gambling remains to this day.
