According to LDP Business, arrests have been made involving Stanleybet International, a fixed-odds betting firm, and its violation of Greek law by opening shops in the area to compete with sports betting monopoly, OPAP S.A.
The Financial Times reported on Friday that the offices of Stanleybet were raided by Greek authorities only one week after it launched operations going against the country’s monopoly. OPAP has exclusive rights on betting and lotteries in Greece until 2020.
In late October, Reuters reported that OPAP was seeking legal action against Stanleybet for encroaching on its territory.
