The Association of Tennis Professionals has banned and fined Frantisek Cermak of the Czech Republic and Michal Mertinak of Slovakia for betting on tennis matches.
Cermak has been banned for ten weeks and fined $15,000; Mertinak has been suspended for two weeks and fined $3,000.
"An ATP investigation launched in November 2007 found that Mr. Cermak had wagered on tennis matches during a period dating from 9 Sept. 2006 through 1 Feb. 2007," according to an ATP statement. "The same investigation found that Mr. Mertinak had wagered on tennis matches during October 2006."
Frantisek and Mertinak have played many doubles games together. Neither player wagered on their own matches.
