AWA Ltd., an Australian gaming machine maker and lottery operator, recently confirmed its plans to enter the online gaming industry, and reportedly intends to apply for licenses in several Australian States.
Chairman Trevor Kennedy confirmed the plan in a statement accompanying company's first half financials, which reveal that earnings have almost doubled to A$4 million (US$2.56 million). He called the decision an "exciting growth opportunity" for the company.
The company has sold off its consumer electronics business to concentrate on the Internet and new media as well as its traditional gaming machines.
