B.C. Lottery Corporation Spending Criticized

15 August 2008

According to The Canadian Press, B.C. Lottery Corporation has said it is spending $430,000 on corporate changes, which include a new logo for the gaming entertainment manager, which will now be known as BCLC.

Yet, Opposition New Democrats say the money should have been spent beefing up the Crown corporation's security..

"It does leave me scratching my head," Harry Lali, critic from the New Democratic Party, told the news outlet, "Given all the kerfuffle that has taken place at B.C. lottos over the last couple of years, that they would turn around and just change its brand and it's going to cost the tax payers nearly half a million dollars." NDP critic Lali

Kevin Gass, vice-president of corporate affairs of BCLC, responded: "The cost associated with the logo change is within the operating budget that we have this year. There was no incremental spending on the logo.”
