bwin's Alleged Security Scandal

5 September 2008

Gaming Intelligence Group reported today that bwin has admittedly hired Wolfgang Bachler, a security consultant and former head of a counter-terrorism unit, to investigate security issues.

”We needed to be able to objectively assess our environment,” said Kevin O´Neal, bwin’s press officer, in response to the hiring.

That environment allegedly includes a man named Bert Schmidt, who Gaming Intelligence Group reports is a frequent critic of bwin. Recently, suspicious activity around Mr. Schmidt’s home, which was recorded by police reports, cites two individuals monitoring his movements.

Many news outlets are drawing a line between the investigation and the suspicious activities surrounding Mr. Schmidt. However, Mr. O’Neal put it simply: ”How Mr. Bachler gets the information relevant to his services is unknown to us and cannot be known to us.”
