An £8 million casino project is set to take over London's Hippodrome in Leicester Square, reports The Guardian.
The historical building, which dates back to 1900, could be converted into a casino with plans for slot machines, gaming tables, poker room, a cabaret bar and a Gordon Ramsay restaurant with construction starting this summer, according to the paper.
United Leisure Gaming Ltd., the consortium behind the redevelopment, formed Hippodrome Casino Ltd. specifically to manage the operations.
Simon Thomas, chairman of Hippodrome Casinos, told The Guardian that work on converting the space into a casino could start as early as this summer, also stating that recession has helped move things along since the company is able to get better quotes from construction companies.
