Casinos Could Come to Three Taiwanese Islands

10 December 2008

The China Post reported on Tuesday that Taiwan’s Council for Economic Planning and Development said that casinos could be built on three offshore islands if the Legislative Yuan were to legalize gambling before the session ends on Jan. 24.

“We have done all the necessary preparations,” a council official told the newspaper. “All we are waiting for is the adoption of a gambling bill,” he added.

According to the paper, the three islands -- Penghu, Quemoy and Matsu -- off the coast of Taiwan could see casinos spring up if the measure is passed.
