Crown Limited, James Packer's Australia-based casino empire, denied on Thursday any interest in acquiring Ameristar, the North American casino group.
Various media outlets reported on Wednesday that Mr. Packer had his sights set on the Nevada-based company.
However, in response to the intense media speculation, Crown said today in a prepared statement to the Australia Stock Exchange that it has not "undertaken or commissioned any evaluation of Ameristar and nor is it proposing to do so."
The statement also questioned the basis for the false reporting.
"While Crown's policy is to neither confirm nor deny rumours relating to potential investment activity, the extent of today's media reporting has necessitated the issuing of this statement," the company said.
