eConnect has formed a new subsidiary, eConnect Dominican Republic SA, to provide credit card transaction access for online gaming companies. Additionally, the company will be offering Internet ATM transaction capabilities for transactions originating in the Dominican Republic.
Transactions will be enabled by the eConnect eCash Pad, a simple card reader that attaches to users' PC. eConnect will provide free readers to each client companies' top 100 customers.
According to eConnect, Dominican Republic consumers will be able to make non-gaming online transactions to the U.S. using the eConnect system for ATM and credit card purchases. The company expects ATM capabilities to be available within 90 days. Similar plans for eConnect Ireland, eConnect Hong Kong and eConnect Australia are expected to come into action by spring 2000.
Mum's the word on just how eConnect intends to implement the product. The company declined an opportunity to elaborate on relatively pertinent issues such as means of distribution, potential clients, price and software applications. So in terms of how the heck people are supposed to go about obtaining and using the product, your guess is as good as ours.
eConnect's business operations break into three distinct product groups: The EzyLink Consumer Group, eConnect Auctions and eSecure Internet Encrypting Products. The company has developed hardware and software systems to enable people to efficiently complete remote, credit and ATM card based transactions.
