Fate of U.S. I-Gaming Study Bill Still to be Decided

31 July 2008

A bill that proposes a one-year study on Internet gambling conducted by the National Academy of Sciences was not heard by the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday.

The Internet Gambling Study Act, introduced in mid 2007 by Representative Shelley Berkley, Democrat of Nevada, was slated for markup by the committee yesterday.

However, due to the large number of bills on the schedule, the committee was unable to address Ms. Berkley's bill.

The next opportunity for markup will come after the Congressional summer break.

"At this point, there will be no more committee action until September," David Cherry, communications director for Ms. Berkley's office, told IGamingNews. "So we will be eying that as our next opportunity for the bill to be marked up."
