On Tuesday morning, a committee of the U.S. House of Representatives adopted an amendment to Rep. Bob Goodlatte's, R-Va., Internet gambling bill that strips it of its exemptions for horse race betting, casinos and lotteries.
The Judiciary Committee overwhelmingly approved the amendment, put forth by Rep. Chris Cannon, R-Utah, by a vote of 18-9.
The committee also voted 18-12 to report Goodlatte's bill to the full House.
A representative from Rep. John Conyers', D-Mich., office said that without exemptions allowing horse race wagering, casino gambling and lotteries on the Internet, the bill has little chance of passing because those industry groups will no longer support it. In addition to Cannon, Conyers opposes the Goodlatte bill.
