Greece Asked to Explain OPAP Contract

23 February 2009

Last week the European Union’s Internal Marketing Commission asked Greece to explain why OPAP S.A. won a contract for its integrated gaming computer system without a public tender, Reuters reports.

According to the news service, the Commission’s initial step was issuing the formal notice, and if a resolution is not reached, the case could go before the European Court of Justice.

The country’s betting monopoly is also under scrutiny by the European Court of Justice.
