House Testimony, Nov. 29, 2001

4 December 2001

Last Thursday the U.S. House Judiciary Committee's Subcommittee on Crime took another look at two I-gaming bills that are awaiting legislative action. The bills were neither marked-up or voted upon.

H.R. 556, the Unlawful Internet Gambling Funding Prohibition Act, and H.R. 3215, the Combating Illegal Gambling Reform and Modernization Act, were the bills under consideration. Both proposals aim to prohibit Internet gambling in the United States.

The subcommittee heard testimony from Rep. James Leach, R-Iowa, who introduced H.R. 556; Rep. Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., who introduced H.R. 3215; Timothy Kelly, former executive director of the National Gambling Impact Study Commission; and Frank Catania, former director of the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement. The Department of Justice also submitted testimony for the record.
