Hilton's Profits Remain Steady
Hilton Group plc, (HGI.L), which includes its Ladbrokes betting and gaming division, released its third quarter reports last week. According to Reuters the company's financials show operating profits remain steady, although recent flooding in the U.K. has led to cancelled horse races and hotel reservations. Ladbrokes betting shop chains were ahead of last year, while the substantial increase in turnover for telephone betting was conflicting with pressure on the profit margins. With 80,000 registered
players on their e-betting sites, the company reports that turnover is increasing. The division's losses, meanwhile, were attributed to lower margins and development costs.
In separate news, Hilton has been discussing the sale of its casino division. U.K. bingo hall operator Gala has entered into exclusive discussions with Hilton regarding the acquisition of the company's 27
casinos. Some other suitors, however, are waiting in the wings, reports London's Sunday Business, including possibly Stanley Leisure. Meanwhile, Reuters suggests that Rank Group may want to acquire Hilton's betting division in an effort to become one of Britain's biggest betting companies. Rank may also be considering a move to acquire Coral instead.
