9 October 2008

Gen. Bambang Hendarso Danuri, Indonesia's newly appointed National Police Chief, has vowed to eradicate gambling from the island country.

Mr. Danuri, who was officially appointed on Sept. 30, said he will "bash gambling," on Thursday after taking power from retiring police chief, General Sutanto, according to the Jakarta Post.

Mr. Danuri said he would call together regional police chiefs and high ranking officials to implement strict measures against gambling. He also vowed to reform the culture within the National Police.

"A change in culture must begin within the National Police," he said.
