Isle of Man: Betting Offices Bill 1999

24 January 2001
As previously reported in IGN, the Isle of Man has passed its long awaited Betting Offices Bill 1999, which among other things, removed the limitation on the number of licenses available for sportsbook operators. Also under its terms, license holders will be allowed to take bets from punters outside of the U.K. and the British Isles. Further, provisions have been made for the Department of Home Affairs to develop any necessary regulations or requirements as needed.

The bill's long-delayed passage was due to concerns raised among industry members, as well as technological developments affecting the industry.
