Kyl to Address NAPRA?

8 September 1998

American racing needs two separate commissioners organizations like it needs two heads, but it has them, and one of them—the North American Pari-Mutuel Regulators Association—has invited the arch foe of Internet gaming, Sen. Jon Kyl of Arizona, to be the featured speaker at their fall convention Sunday, Sept. 27, in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

The choice is ironic for a meeting of regulators, since Kyl still thinks prohibition rather than regulation is the answer to betting on the Internet.

On a more positive note, NAPRA will unveil what it calls "the first-ever Horse Database System" at its conference, which covers Sept. 26 thru 29. Commission veterinarians will be able to update information such as bleeder medication eligibility from one jurisdiction to another by computer.
