Legality of Neb. Racino Bill Questioned

27 January 2009

A state senator in Nebraska is questioning whether a bill to bring slot machines to Nebraska racetracks is in line with the state’s constitution, according to the Associated Press.

The news service reported that Senator Tony Fulton has asked the state’s attorney general whether the proposal is constitutional because it contains three subjects rather than just one.

Nebraska Senator Russ Karpisek proposed the amendment to the state constitution to legalize slot machines at racetracks, the Omaha World-Herald reported last week.

If approved, the amendment would legalize up to 3,500 electronic and video gaming machines at horse tracks across the state.
