Liberia Signs Bingo Deal with Multimedia Games

8 May 2000
Another piece has fallen into the puzzle for Liberia in its efforts to bring several government-operated gaming services to the Internet. Multimedia Games, a developer of networked bingo games, announced May 5 that it has been selected to provide high-speed interactive bingo over the Internet for the Liberia International Lottery.

The agreement calls for Multimedia Games' bingo games to be integrated into a suite of software designed by Starnet Communications International of Antigua. In February, the government announced its selection of Starnet as the its gaming software vender.

Multimedia Games Inc. designs and develops interactive bingo games and video lottery systems that are marketed to bingo halls and casinos located throughout the United States. The Company is best known for its development and operation of FlashCashTM, MegaManiaTM, BigCashTM and other high-speed interactive Class II bingo games, which are played on interconnected electronic player stations (EPS). The company also produces live TV game shows which are transmitted to halls via MGAM's closed circuit TV satellite network.

"The selection of Multimedia Games to provide high-speed Internet bingo games for the Liberia International Lottery is particularly pleasing since the company has a proven track record in working with government-run games for Native American Indian nations," Liberia International Lottery Alphonso Gaye said. "Liberia intends to respect the cross-border concerns of other countries in the community of nations and is pleased that Multimedia Games is committed to the same compliance standard for these games.'

Games at Liberia's gambling site(s) will only be made available in countries where it is legal for citizens to participate and/or in countries that enter into a country-to-country agreement with Liberia. Players in North America will thus not be able to participate in real-money wagering.

The site will initially be available in English, Chinese, Japanese and Korean. Additional languages will be later added.

Final determination of successful vendors is contingent upon concluding standard probity clearances and a definitive agreement.
