The House-introduced Internet Gambling Prohibition Act (H.R. 3125) is scheduled for mark up on Wednesday, November 3, 1999 at 9:30 am in the Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime in 2237 Rayburn HOB. It's expected that the Subcommittee will pass the bill out to the full Judiciary Committee with few changes.
On the Senate side, the dogged Senator Kyl is trying hard to bring his bill (S. 692) to a floor vote this week. It appears that Indian gaming can now be added to the long list of exceptions in what now might be called the Internet Gambling Expansion Act by some. If that exemption has now been included in the bill, it may bring the ire of the traditional casino industry but it will, in effect, move most of the holds which had previously kept the bill from coming to a vote.
On another front, it appears that the White House has now come out against the legislation, although the rationale is not yet available.
