Macao May Clarify Rules for Employee Relatives

20 February 2008

A member of Macao's Legislative Assembly wants to amend gaming laws to clarify rules concerning gambling by relatives of casino employees. Angela Leong On-Kit has proposed the measure following a fiasco at the Venetian Macao involving a local jackpot player who won US$130,000 but was not allowed to claim the prize because she is a relative of a casino employee.

"Gaming operators are responsible to elaborate the gaming rules to the gamblers so that their rights can be guaranteed," said Leong.

The gambler has filed a complaint with Macao's Coordination Bureau, which is investigating the matter.
