Manchester City Council leader Sir Richard Leese warns that the council will consider legal action if the Government does not give Manchester a regeneration package near in value to the £265 million it was promised its winning supercasino bid would catch.
The Rt Hon Hazel Blears MP, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, confirmed the Government will indeed consider ways to regenerate Manchester. However, an earlier study published by Blears' office found that there was no obvious alternative for regeneration in Manchester other than the supercasino. But the study also suggested that the financial benefits of the supercasino could be offset by potentially significant social and economic costs.
