Melco to Develop in Taiwan

Lawrence Ho, the chairman of Macau's Melco International Development Ltd., has expressed interest in building casinos in Taiwan, contingent on the Taiwan government lifting its ban on gambling, according to Deutsche Presse.

"If the Taiwan government lifts the ban on gambling, I am interested in making investments in Taiwan," Mr. Ho said, adding that Taiwan is the perfect location because it's near Southeast Asia and China.

In May, Ma Ying-jeou, Taiwan's president-elect, announced he would push for legislation for the development of casinos on the offshore island of Penghu.
