It looks like Multimedia Games, Inc. (MGAM) will have to step into the ring for another round in Oklahoma to fight for the legality of its MegaMania bingo game.
Civil forfeiture actions, regarding the game and equipment owned by MGAM and two Indian
tribes, were filed against the company last year by the U.S. Attorney in Tulsa and the U.S. Attorney in the Northern District of California. Judges in both jurisdictions ruled that the game is a lawful Class II electronic bingo game and the equipment used in connection with the game was legal Class II bingo gaming equipment.
The Department of Justice, however, maintains the right to file an appeal, and the United States Attorneys Office for the Northern District of Oklahoma has done just that.
MGAM remains confident that the original rulings will be upheld and points out that both Judges overruled requests by the U.S. Attorneys to reconsider their opinions. Management has expressed its commitment to defend the decisions, is optimistic about the outcome and believes that the cost of such a defense would not be material.
