Hotel/casino giant MGM Grand Inc. is aggressively seeking cybersquatting relief. The company has filed several suits in U.S. District Court against individuals and/or companies that reportedly own 26 infringing domain names in violation of the Anti-Cybersquatting Consumer Protection Act.
In the suit, according to the Las Vegas Sun, MGM Grand and two of its properties, New York-New York hotel-casino and Primadonna properties, allege that the disputed domain name holders intend to divert customers from the correct hotel-casino sites to their own, where they allegedly provide false contact information. The defendants reportedly are located in the United States, Canada, South America, the Middle East, Europe and Asia.
Among the disputed URLs are mgm-mirage.com, miragemgm.com, mgm-mirage.net, mgm-mirage.org, mgmgrandmirage.com, mgmgrandmirage.com, mgmmirage.com, mgmirage.com, mgmgmirageresorts.com, themgmmirage.com, studio54.net, studio54.org, studio-54-club.com, newyorknewyorkcasino.com, newyorknewyorkcasino.net, nynycasino.com, nynycasino.net, whiskey-pete.com, whiskeypete.com, whiskeypetes.com, buffalobillscasino.net, and buffalobills-casino.com.
An additional cybersquatting suit has been filed against an Indian company, Netcom Distributors and its U.S. agent Business Internet Connection that allegedly operates an Internet casino under the URL
"mgmgrandcasino.com."
