Morning Brief: Appointments and Analytics

20 August 2008

With your morning coffee or afternoon tea:

Andrew Twaits has been appointed chief executive of Betfair Australia effective Oct. 16, 2008. Mr. Twaits, previously Beftair's director of corporate and business affairs in Australia, replaces Anthony Klok, who will join Crown Ltd., the recently demerged gaming arm of Publishing and Broadcasting Ltd., in mid October as international business development director.

GigaMedia Ltd., the Taiwan company, has appointed Quincy Tang as chief financial officer. Mr. Tang succeeds Thomas T. Hui, who has served as interim C.F.O. since his promotion to president and chief operating officer last August.

The latest Harvard Medical School study done in conjunction with Bwin Interactive Entertainment suggests that company-imposed deposit limits may help in identifying problem gamblers but are unlikely to curb problem-gambling behavior.
