Morning Brief: Department of Questions (Update 1)

28 August 2008

888 Holdings, the Gibraltar operator, has reported year-over-year growth of 36 percent in total net gaming revenue during the first half, bolstered by strong performance in its emerging offerings, which include bingo and sports betting.

The results earned "buy" recommendations from analysts with Dresdner Kleinwort and Numis Securities in London, who suggested that bingo and sports betting would continue to be strong growth drivers for the company.

For the many following closely 888's dealings with the United States Department of Justice, the company said: "It remains too early to assess any particular outcome of these discussions."

We've contacted Gigi Levy, the company's chief executive, and hope to speak with him later this morning.

News this week that the Republican Platform Committee withdrew and subsequently reinserted anti-Internet-gambling language from the Republican platform drew the following response from Frank Catania Sr., a United States I-gaming expert:

"Since the language has been reinserted I believe that this is proof that the Christian conservative Republicans still are in control, even if their presidential candidate is more of a moderate," Mr. Catania told IGamingNews in an e-mail. "As a republican moderate I myself would find it hard to support such a platform that still professes views that are far from mine."

Inteltek, a venture comprised of Greece's Intralot S.A. and Turkey's Turkcell, was today awarded the contract to operate Iddaa, Turkey's state-administered sports betting game.

"I see that Intralot won the Turkey sports betting contract but are keeping only 1.4% of revenues," one industry insider told IGamingNews this morning. "Lottomatica had pitched for more and, well, as a conservative country, Turkey was not ready for Ladbrokes."

WagerWorks, a subsidiary of International Game Technology, has released 3 Wheel Roulette, a software product offering players three times the opportunities to win on each spin.
