Morning Brief: Road to Recovery

17 September 2008

Citadel Commerce Corporation, the online money transfer arm of ESI Entertainment Systems Inc., has done a deal to supply 888 Holdings with an online payment solution called Instant Internet Banking.

IGN's Take: This is a significant announcement, as the British Columbia company's last discussed its $9.1 million settlement with the United States Department of Justice. 888 is a partner whose brand equity is sure to lend credibility to a company looking to rebuild its badly wounded payment processing business. More on this later today.

Lode Van Den Hende, a trade consultant with Herbert Smith, a firm in Brussels, told IGN via e-mail today that the European Union Embassy in Washington, D.C., will hold a press briefing this evening at approximately 6 p.m., Eastern Standard Time.

The briefing will cover the progress of this week's meetings between the European Union trade delegation and the office of the United States Trade Representative over allegations that the Justice Department is in breach of international treaties by continuing to enforce World Trade Organization-violating laws against European gambling operators.

Otherwise, for the duration of the investigation, public comments are limited, Mr. Van Den Hende added.

Swisslos Interkantonale Landeslotterie, the Swiss lottery, claimed in a press release dated yesterday that Phantom Fiber Corporation, the beleaguered wireless and mobile technology company, has wrongfully listed Swisslos as a client.

In Phantom Fiber's second-quarter results, filed Aug. 19 with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission, the company said:

"[Phantom Fiber] also recently signed . . . Swiss Lottery and Electracade, both of which are European based companies, which broadens its European exposure and further expands its product offerings both geographically and functionally."

Susanne Platner, a press contact for Swisslos, said in yesterday's statement that the company has "neither concluded any vendor agreement directly with Phantom Fiber at any time in the past nor intends to in the foreseeable future."
