BETTING ON GOOD FRIDAY
Previously categorized with Christmas, Good Friday will now be another day to place bets in New South Wales and Victoria,
according to the Daily Telegraph.
Tabcorp Ltd. told the paper that it will be taking bets for the first time on Good Friday, which is April 10.
“All this is discretionary,” Robert Nason, the company’s managing director of wagering, told the Telegraph about betting on Good Friday. “People have a choice as to what they do on the day and how they wish to spend it. We are a multicultural society.”
Last year United Kingdom bookmakers, including William Hill, took bets on Good Friday for the first time in 25 years, according to the Daily Mail.
CONDITIONAL LOVE
California-based Youbet.com Inc. has unveiled a new feature for Youbet Express that allows customers to set multiple parameters in terms of odds, payoff or timing of a bet.
Announced on Monday, the new conditional wagering system lets customers set minimum acceptable odds on “Win” wagers with a sole betting interest, and minimum probable payoffs on straight “Daily Double”, “Exacta” and “Quinella” wagers.
“Conditional wagering is exactly the kind of innovative feature that our customers have come to expect from Youbet,” said David Goldberg, the company’s chief operating officer, in a company statement.
NEW LGA LEADERSHIP
The Maltese Lotteries and Gaming Authority has named Reuben Portanier its chief executive.
Most recently, Mr. Portanier, an economics graduate from the University of Malta, served as the group chief officer of strategy and business development with the Datatrak Group and chief information officer with MITTS Ltd., which is now MITA, or Malta Information Technology Agency.
The Lotteries and Gaming Authority regulates gaming activities in Malta that include casinos, bingo halls, horse racing, the National lottery, remote gaming and video lottery terminals.
“After a period of building the authority’s framework and operations, the LGA is now moving into its next evolutionary phase, where we are in the process of consolidating our legislative framework, streamlining our practices, and broadening our outlook to continue being at the forefront of industry developments,” said Nick Xuere, chairman for Lotteries and Gaming Authority, in a prepared statement.
