Licensed -- The Alderney Gambling Control Commission has granted a full eGambling License to operator Arkin Sports and Leisure Limited. "Alderney provides the right technical environment for the continued expansion of Arkin's TheBetArena online betting and gaming operations," said Arkin chairman Erbil Arkin.
In Line -- 32Red has said its first quarter trading has been in line with management expectations after the Cheltenham Festival proved successful for its online sportsbook, BetDirect. The company also launched its 32Red Bet Web site, which realizes the company's plans of offering integrated betting and gaming services for both the 32Red and BetDirect brands. In mid-March, 32Red reported a pretax loss of $7.1 million after an abnormally high number of winning favorites in U.K. horseracing markets coupled with unfavorable football results adversely affected gross win margins for BetDirect.
Stay or Go? -- BettingMarket.com reports that, despite the presence prohibitive I-gaming legislation in Turkey, Sportingbet continues with its operations in the country. The company's wholly-owned marketing partner, Maslin Properties, has continued to operate its online casino in the face of legislation that prohibits unauthorized companies--domestic and foreign--from offering I-gaming services to Turkish residents. The news source said that industry observers will watch to see whether Sportingbet will join other major operators, including bwin, PartyGaming and Neteller, in withdrawing from the country. Betfair, Ladbrokes and William Hill, however, continue to offer Turkish-language versions of their Web sites.
