NO TOTE FOR YOU The United Kingdom government announced on Wednesday that it will not sell the Horserace Totalisator Board, or Tote, because of “current market conditions.”

“After further work over the summer, I have now concluded that it is not appropriate to pursue a sale in these market conditions,” said Gerry Sutcliffe, the Parliament minister for sport. “I have therefore decided that the Tote should be retained in public ownership for the medium-term and brought to the market when conditions are likely to deliver value for the tax payer and racing.”

REJECTED Yesterday Tipp24 A.G. released a statement that said Germany's Federal Constitutional Court has rejected the lottery provider’s complaint against several provisions of the State Treaty on Gaming.

The complaint was directed against the prohibition of Internet brokerage lotteries, the requirement to obtain a permit for lottery brokerages, the ban of online lottery advertising as well as regional restrictions in two federal states.

The court threw out the complaint on Oct. 14, which the Germany-based company was informed of yesterday, and according to Tipp24, it said “the severe interference with the constitutionally protected freedom of profession was justified and reasonable in view of the legislative intent to prohibit and combat gambling addiction.”

BBC DEAL Greentube A.G., a skill games developer, has signed a deal with the British Broadcasting Corporation to adapt one of the Vienna-based company’s free downloadable games for the United Kingdom public service audience.

“Mountainbike Challenge 08” will be based on existing game engines that deliver multi-player downhill racing, which is financed through in-game advertising.

“This is another proof of concept for us and honors the work we are doing and the constant improvement of concepts and games we are living for,” said Eberhard Dürrschmid, Greentube’s chief executive.
