IN-RUNNING DOWN UNDER Betfair, the international betting exchange, announced on Thursday the launch of “in-running” betting on Australian horseracing.
Beginning Saturday, Betfair Australia customers will be able to bet live while a race is in progress, which means for the first time punters down under can place a bet from after the horses leave the starting gate right up to the winning post. According to the company, in-running betting accounts for 18 percent of all moneytraded on United Kingdom horseracing.
“The in-running product will be a boon for the racing industry,' Anthony Klok , chief executive of Betfair Australia, in a prepared statement. 'With the concept comes a host of new ways to bet, stimulating interest in racing. We’ve been looking forward to offering this product to Australian punters on our local product for sometime. Evidence from the United Kingdom suggests it’s a favourite with the punters and ultimately a great driver of interest in horseracing.”
THINK PINK October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and William Hill has teamed up with the charity Breast Cancer Care, the United Kingdom-based charity, launching three ways to do its part in raising awareness and funds for the charity whose mission is to help people affected by the disease.
For the month of October, 10 percent of every Pink Ribbon ticket sold will go to the charity.
In addition, for every new customer that registers between Oct. 1 and Dec. 31 using the code 'CARE' and plays £20, £10 will go to the charity. William Hill has also included a link to the charity's Web site where customers can make a direct donation.
The money raised will fund support and information for people who have been diagnosed, plus their friends and families, ensuring that no-one has to face breast cancer alone.
'There are many people who are struggling to come to terms with their diagnosis on their own at this very minute and that is unacceptable,' Sarah Hill, head of corporate fundraising at Breast Cancer Care, said in a prepared statement. 'That’s why we are so grateful for the support from William Hill. The crucial funds raised will help us to reach more people and to offer them the care and support they need, whenever they need it.'
