SPHERE OF INFLUENCE The streets of Liverpool were inundated with Ladbrokesbingo.com's enormous, multi-colored bingo balls today.

Part of a £3m TV ad campaign airing next month, the Ben Quinn-directed ad promoting the bookmaker's bingo Web site will focus on the 13-feet-across orbs bouncing near Liverpool landmarks such as The Liver Building and The Steble Fountain.

"This is a really exciting project for Ladbrokes Bingo, and we are delighted to be bringing bingo on such a big scale to the streets of Liverpool,” Charlie Goodenough, acquisition marketing manager at Ladbrokesbingo.com, told Brand Republic.

"We wanted to represent the fun, exciting nature of the game, and we're sure the giant bingo balls will make an impact on both Merseyside and across the country," he said.

AD BLOCK The United Kingdom Advertising Standards Authority has banned Wink Bingo’s national ad campaign in London. The media watchdog believes the online gambling Web site’s ad promotes betting in the workplace, which is a breach in rules.

The Web site had set out to be "cheeky, irreverent, sassy and a bit naughty" with a Spacebar Media-created ad. Instead, the now-controversial ad that shows a nurse celebrating a bingo win while a woman gives birth in the background was interpreted by the group as a nurse ignoring work duties to gamble.

"We acknowledged that the intention of the ad was to portray a real-life situation in a humorous way, but considered that the ad nonetheless showed a healthcare professional ignoring a woman giving birth in order to play bingo online," the authority decreed in its ruling.
