HOW THOUGHTFUL The Poker Players Alliance placed an advertisement in several Capitol Hill newspapers calling for the United States Congress to “enact thoughtful regulation of online poker,” the group said in a prepared statement.

According to the nonprofit organization, the ad will appear in Roll Call, The Politico and The Hill this week and shows a hand holding out a royal flush with the words “It’s time for some straight talk.” floating above. Below the image, a five-paragraph statement from the Poker Players Alliance calls for regulation of online poker as “the only truly effective way to protect the consumers and collect billions in tax revenue.”

At the bottom of the ad, the group reiterates point with the statement: “No matter how you cut the deck, regulation is the answer.”

BANNED The Guardian reported on Wednesday that the Advertising Standards Authority, or ASA, has banned an advertisement from Paddy Power, a Dublin-based bookmaker, which gave odds that played on the failure of airlines.

The ad, which appeared in national newspapers, used the headline "Next Airline to go BUST?" with the text "Booked a flight? Don’t sweat, insure with Paddy Power" written beneath.

“The ad must not appear again in its current form,” the ASA said in its decision to take the ad off the market. “We told Paddy Power to ensure they did not unfairly discredit businesses when advertising betting markets.”
