SIGNING Gtech Global Services Corporation has signed an agreement with National Sports Lottery of Nigeria to replace the central systems of Nigeria’s national online lottery, the company announced on Monday.
Gtech said it expects to make $38 million during the eight-year agreement, which commences in the third quarter of 2009. Under the terms, the National Sports Lottery’s 15,000 terminals will be connected to Gtech’s new central system, and an additional 10,000 terminals will be installed before 2010.
“The Nigerian market has, for quite a long time, been very attractive to Gtech,” said Jaymin B. Patel, Gtech’s president and chief executive. “Being one of the most populous and fastest-developing economies in Africa and occupying a strategic position in the West African sub-region, Nigeria provides an opportunity to realize yet another shared vision of a positive linkage of our technology and services with sound local capacity, knowledge and expertise.”
LISTING SWITCH The Stockholm Stock Exchange listing committee has approved Net Entertainment N.E. A.B. for listing on Nasdaq OMX Stockholm, the company announced on Monday.
The company said Jan. 13, 2009, will be the first day of trading on the exchange, which means trading in B-shares will be moved from the marketplace NGM Equity before that date. In a statement, Net Entertainment added that its shareholders will not have to take any action with the switch and that shares would be traded under the same listing as before.
”Net Entertainment has during the last five years showed a strong growth rate and rising profitability,” Johan Öhman, president and chief executive of Net Entertainment, said in a prepared statement. ”The listing on Nasdaq OMX Stockholm constitutes a quality stamp and is implemented to further improve the brand and Net Entertainment's position among customers, coworkers, investors and media as well as improve the possibility to use the share as payment in connection with potential acquisitions.”
BETFAIR’S NEW C.T.O. On Thursday Betfair announced that Tony McAlister would join the betting exchange in Jan. 19 as chief technology officer.
Mr. McAlister will be replacing Rorie Devine, who left the company in May. According to Betfair, while looking after a group of 300 information technology engineers, Mr. McAlister will also be required to enhance the customer experience.
Prior to his new post, Mr. McAlister spent the last three years as chief technology officer of Motricity Inc., a content-management vendor. From 2001 to 2005, Mr. McAlister was chief technology officer at Vodafone Group.
