GOING GREEK On Thursday, Betfair announced that it has launched its poker client in Greek.

The betting exchange said that the Greek region has seen “tremendous growth in the last 18 months,” and has therefore become a priority for Betfair Poker.

“I look forward to seeing their unique style of play at our tables,” said Bruce Stubbs, head of Betfair Poker, about the addition of the Greek poker client. “At last they can now check, raise and fold the Greek way!”

EXTENDING Inspired Gaming Group’s five-year contract with Bourne Leisure, owner of Warner Breaks, Haven, British Holidays and Butlins, has been extended by two years, the open server-based gaming provider announced on Thursday.

According to the company, which operates 37 Bourne Leisure-owned sites around the United Kingdom, the contract extension applies to all venues under the original terms.

NOT AT WAR Even though Tabcorp Holdings has resorted to legal action against Racing Victoria Ltd. , the Daily Telegraph reports that the gaming company said it is “not at war with the Victorian racing industry.”

The Telegraph said Tabcorp served a writ in the Victorian Supreme Court directed at Racing Victoria’s right to enact product fees, which Racing Victoria’s chief executive said it will “vigorously defend.”

“We support the imposition of a race fields fee based on a percentage of turnover, but not as a percentage of revenue,” a Tabcorp spokesperson told the paper.

REPORTING Rank Group, the land-based and remote gambling operator, announced on Thursday that Hong Leong Company Berhad now holds a 26.01 percent stake in the United Kingdom company.

Via its Asia Fountain Investment Company Ltd. , Hong Leong has been increasing its investment in Rank since January 2008 when, according to Reuters, it held only a 4 percent stake.

In the statement released today, Rank said Hong Leong had a notifiable interest in the voting rights attached to 101,590,149 ordinary 13 8/9p shares representing 26.01 percent of the total voting rights.

RESPONSIBLE GAMBLING RESEARCH A study looking into the checks and balances of responsible gaming in cyberspace is underway at Swansea Metropolitan University in the United Kingdom.

In an e-mail, Caroline Jawad, a Ph.D. student and member of the Society for the Study of Gambling, said she is looking for participants to take an online survey to assist in research that investigates the effectiveness of responsible gambling features.

According to Ms. Jawad, the research is self-funded, independent of operators and will be published by the University of Wales.
