Floater -- Excapsa Software Inc., the Toronto-based software developing firm behind such Internet gambling companies as UltimateBet and UltimatePoker, is pursuing an AIM floatation, and trading is due to start Feb. 16. Advised by Cannacord Adams, Excapsa hopes to raise up to £75 million to pay off debts.

Security Upgrade -- Online betting and gaming company PinnacleSports.com beefed up its security Tuesday with a new solution for monitoring customer transactions, called Accurate NXG, provided by e-commerce solutions firm Check Free Corporation. PinnacleSports.com will use the risk management software for all of its products, including sports betting, racing and casino gaming technologies.

MacPoker -- A poker aficionado named Roger (just Roger) recently launched Compatiblepoker.com, a site that reviews Macintosh-compatible poker software, bonuses and poker downloads for Macs. It's all things Mac for poker lovers who want to play for free. The site also includes information for Windows and Linux users who have compatibility issues when playing online poker.

Hired -- Casino and poker operator 32Red Plc announced today the appointment of former Victor Chandler managing director Ed Andrewes as its new development director responsible for marketing, commercial partnership and new product development. Andrewes is also a former commercial director for online sports betting company Blue Square.

Quoteworthy -- "There are very few businesses in this world that say to governments, 'Regulate us and then tax us.' But that is exactly what we are requesting. I bet it would be a step in the right direction for all concerned."

- BetonSports CEO David Carruthers advises the U.S. government on legalizing Internet gambling in an op/ed titled "To Curb Gambling Abuses, Regulate Us," appearing in today's issue of the congressional newspaper The Hill.

Polish -- Online betting company Gamebookers.com has launched a Polish-language version of the site, marking the 10th language available. According to company statistics, traffic on the site tends to double within 60 days in regions where it launches a native-language solution.
