Tidbit from Asia -- Casinos may soon be a reality in Japan. The governor of Tokyo, Shintaro Ishihara, recently voiced his support for legalized casino gambling in his city, which is badly in need of new sources of revenue after last year's decrease in taxes collected. "We need to create jobs, stay culturally active and maintain sources of revenue," Ishihara said. The Tokyo government estimates that it could generate $177.41 million in tax revenue and 13,800 jobs if casinos were approved. A representative of the Japan Casino Society, which supports gaming, said that casinos could possibly create $24.19 billion in tax revenue for Japan if it were successful.

News from the US -- The New Jersey Assembly's Tourism and Gaming Committee has scheduled a hearing to discuss an I-gaming-related bill for Thursday. The bill would create a commission that would study the feasibility of legalizing Internet gambling in the state.
