Here Comes Jersey -- Jersey, one of the British Channel Islands, may be set to compete with Alderney in becoming an online gaming jurisdiction. The island's gaming industry has been limited primarily to betting offices, but last year the states began making strides towards legalizing internet gambling on the island, and now Jersey is creating its own gambling commission to regulate the lucrative industry. Alderney's Gambling Commission, which oversees 14 online gaming firms, netted more than £750,000 last year.

Boss on the Hook? -- Eastern District Federal Judge Arthur D. Spatt has ruled that a New York woman who won $1 million in an online gambling promotion in 2001, but received only $77,000 before being cut off in 2003, has the right to sue Swedish gaming software supplier Boss Media. Susanne Uebler sued Boss, claiming that it controlled the online gambling activities of Caribbean-based CyberCroupier and its subsidiary, the now-defunct Oriental Casino, which failed to award her $923,000 of the $1 million prize she won in a contest. Boss said CyberCroupier was merely a licensee and not an agent. But Spatt noted the presence of WebDollar, a New York-based agent to Boss, which processed online financial transactions for Boss and is listed as a division in Boss's 2002 report. In light of this information, Spatt ruled that the court had personal jurisdiction over Boss, despite its claim that it had nothing to do with running the contest. William Gantz, who represents Boss Media, said regardless of Boss and Oriental's licensor-licensee relationship, Oriental held the contest on its own, and, therefore, Boss should not be held liable.

Exchange Baccarat -- Betfair Games today announced the launch of "Exchange Baccarat," a game that enables customers to set their own odds and back and lay as the games unfold. As with the other offerings in Betfair's Exchange Games series, customers bet against each other, and bettors who are not happy with the odds on offer can request better ones. Exchange Baccarat is expected to be popular in the Asian market, where baccarat is extremely popular.

Another Mobile Solution -- Finnish I-gaming supplier EGET today announced the delivery of a mobile betting solution to its Estonian customer, Fortuuna.ee. The technology will enable Fortuuna.ee to offer 24/7 mobile and online sports betting to its players, and of course, it is well timed for the start of the World Cup. The solution enables mobile players to bet on the same matches or events that are available online.

Adding Pounds and Euros -- Online cash payment provider Ukash has announced an international partnership with U.K.-based, Irish- and Spanish-registered Ladbrokes, enabling Ladbrokes.com account holders to add pounds or euros to their balance immediately through Ukash vouchers. According to the two companies, around 30 percent of U.K. customers are reluctant to use credit cards online, and 16 percent of U.K. do not own a proper credit card.
