Racing UK vs. SIS -- A four-day hearing of the case filed by Racing UK and Phumela Gold Enterprises of South Africa has ended with Justice Donald Rattee rejecting their application for summary judgment against Satellite Information Services (SIS). Racing UK brought the case to court because it believes SIS is committing a breach of contract by distributing racing data and audio coverage of Racing UK races to overseas customers. Rattee ruled that the defendants, SIS and the Bookmakers Afternoon Greyhound Service (which was added late to the case), had no arguable case to answer and ordered Racing UK to pay for the defendants' legal costs. Racing UK says it intends to continue the fight, but it will not be able to obtain a full hearing until at least January. In the meantime, Rattee has given the parties two weeks to resolve the dispute.

Players -- Victor Chandler said this week that one fifth of its registered users is female, and 74 percent of them have registered within the last seven months. The company's commercial director, Gill Leivesley, attributes the statistics to poker, stating, "There may be a straightforward reason behind poker's growth among women, and that's simply that women make good poker players. Many of the traits associated with successful players are often those that are traditionally perceived as feminine. For example, poker requires a player to be able to read both people and situations, to assimilate and process information from multiple sources and to be just that little bit devious when required."
