Bit from the US -- The Internet news site for CNN is holding a Web poll to determine what percentage of its viewers think online gambling should be banned. As of Thursday at 11 a.m. central U.S. time, seventy-four percent, or 1,362, of those who voted said Internet betting should not be banned. Twenty-four percent, or 470 people, said it should be banned. CNN warns that the poll is not scientific and represents the opinion of only those people who choose to participate.
Makin' Deals -- Internet Payment Solutions, an e-commerce payment company, said today that it has added the Cyphermint Pay Cash System to its payment options. The Cyphermint system provides users and merchants with a traceable e-commerce system that leaves an audit trail of each transaction so transactions cannot be repudiated. Internet Payment Solutions released a statement saying the addition of Cyphermint's technology will help it serve the online gaming population and people who don't have access to credit cards.
Names and Faces -- Youbet.com has named Michael J. Veitch as its chief marketing officer. Veitch was most recently the CEO of Access Media. Roland Hernandez has been elected to join MGM Mirage's board of directors. He was most recently the CEO and chairman of the board of Telemundo Group Inc.
New Stuff -- Rimpac Resources Ltd. said today that it is opening an Internet lottery and marketing office in Tijuana, Mexico. One of the duties of the staff at that office will be to collect and analyze data on the Mexican lottery segments.
Legal Stuff -- Mandalay Resort Group is suing to prevent Telnet Inc. and its owner, Edward Gifford, from continuing to use Mandalay's "Slots of Fun" trademark. The Las Vegas Sun reports today that Mandalay wants to gain the rights to "slotsofun.com," which it says Telenet and Gifford have linked to luckyrollcasino.com and Casino On Net.
