NetBet Becomes sportingbet.com

1 August 1999
Attaching '.com' to your company name has proven to be a wise move for many Internet business of late seeking the attention of tech stock gobbling investors. British online sports betting operation NetBet (UK) plc became the latest company to join the club Friday as shareholders agreed to change the company name to sportingbet.com (UK) plc.

"Our aim is to make sportingbet.com the leading international brand for internet sports betting," Chairman and Managing Director Mark Blandford said. "The change of the company name is one step in achieving this aim." He also said that the name change prevents the possibility of being confused with other Internet businesses using a variation of 'Netbet'.

Launched in August 1998, sportingbet.com(UK) plc is the only tax-free betting company based in the British Isles, as well as the largest employer on the island of Alderney. It was floated on the OFEX Market in April 1999.

The name change takes effect immediately.
