Netherlands takes aim at gambling influencers

3 July 2025
(PRESS RELEASE) -- The Dutch Gaming Authority will tackle gokin influencers and has imposed a first charge under penalty on influencer LeftlanePapi in that context. The number of reports from influencers posting images on various social media platforms about how they gamble illegally has been increasing lately. The Ksa takes these reports very seriously, because these influencers use their activities to appeal to a (very) young target group. When influencers do not remove their content within 48 hours after a warning from the Ksa, sanctioning action is taken.
On the YouTube channel LeftlanePapi, videos were shown with live streams of online gambling at illegal providers. It was also actively advertised for the illegal providers, by encouraging viewers to play there as well. The Ksa gave the influencer a warning. Because the content in question was not removed after the warning and new streams were made, the Ksa is now imposing a penalty payment. Existing content must be removed and no new advertising must be made. If this happens, the influencer will receive a penalty of €25,000 per violation, with a maximum of € 75,000.
With its new approach, the Ksa opts for a policy on two tracks. After a violation of an infringement, influencers receive a message that they must stop their activities within 48 hours and that illegal content must be removed. If the influencer does not, the Ksa approaches the social media platform so that the malicious content is removed anyway. The influencer is charged with a penalty payment, as happened with Leftlanepapi. The Ksa has warned several influencers.
