Plans to open a late-night betting shop within a snooker hall in Blackburn, Lancashire, United Kingdom, have been snuffed by local politicians.
The shop would have been opened for 22 hours a day, closing only between 6 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. But local council members objected to the plan, saying it needed more restrictions to comply with Gambling Commission guidelines.
Furthermore, vulnerable people would not be protected from losing substantial amounts of money at the late-night betting shop, warned the council's licensing subcommittee.
