Norway Proposes Payments Ban

19 November 2007

Ending more than a month's worth of speculation, the Norwegian government last week submitted a proposal for public comment confirming its intention to disrupt the relationship between payment processors, Norwegian residents and what it terms "unlawful" remote gambling sites.

In an October interview with IGN, Rolf Sims, legal advisor to Norwegian Ministry of Culture and Church Affairs, said the government was considering drafting the proposal but that "a final decision ha[d] not been made as to whether the government intend[ed] to go forward."

Sims told IGN today that the proposal was submitted on Nov. 13.

More on this to follow.
