Ohio Lottery Presents Keno

10 March 2008

The Ohio Lottery will introduce keno to taverns, restaurants and clubs throughout the state on July 1.

Governor Ted Strickland has opposed gambling expansion in Ohio but has allowed the Lottery to offer the keno product in hope of offsetting the state's impending budget deficit of between $733 million and $1.9 billion. Keno is expected to generate $73 during its first year.

Keno will be permitted in establishments with on-site alcohol consumption that become licensed as a lottery retailer. Tavern owners will be allowed to keep 5.5 percent of profits.

Games will be played every four minutes.
