Online lotteries have come under scrutiny in Mumbai, India, after the state lottery department said that there is no law that outlines their legality, The Times of India reports.
However, the newspaper reports that the state government found online lotteries to be in violation of the 1998 Central Lotteries Act, which doesn’t allow lotteries to draw more than once a week. Online lotteries operating within the region, conversely, draw 15 times a day, according to a police superintendent.
”Either we have to put an end to the online lotteries or draft a law accordingly,” Ranjana Sinha, a principal secretary with the Maharashtra government, told The Times.
